In addition to its largest event, Anime Detour, Anime Twin Cities also sponsors and hosts multiple social events and activities throughout the year. The Social Outreach Services team encourages year-round connection and friendship within the anime fan community by organizing and running these events. See the Calendar page for a full calendar of upcoming activities, with specific dates and times.
The SOS team aims to provide monthly social activities and various other gatherings as well as a few larger annual events.
When: January
Where: Geek Partnership Society
Description:
The harsh winters of Minnesota result in a season where conventions and other large events for anime
fans are few and far between. Outpost Anime provides an oasis from the cold where fans can gather,
watch anime, do cosplay, participate in fun activities, and win prizes!
When: July
Where: Como Park
Description:
Put on your favorite costume and join other anime fans for food and games. Burgers, hot dogs, and
bottled water are provided free of charge. Participants are encouraged to bring a side item to share.
Team games such as Pictionary are offered for a chance to win prizes.
When: August
Where: Geek Partnership Society
Description:
For those interested in cosplay as more than a casual hobby, the ATC Cosplay Fest provides an
opportunity for cosplayers to learn new skills and hone their craft. This event offers hands-on workshops
taught by costuming experts in the community, covering a range of topics such as building props, the
basics of sewing, and posing effectively for photographs. There are also experienced photographers on
hand to provide individual photoshoots for any participants in costume. The event concludes with a
formal cosplay contest including pre-judging sessions with some of our workshop instructors.
Due to space constraints this event is limited to 50 participants, on a first-come, first-served basis.
When: 1st Tuesday of every month at 6:30 PM
Where: Various locations – See the Calendar page for specific dates and locations.
Description:
Join some of your fellow anime fans for a casual evening of company and conversation. These events
generally take place at restaurants, on a five-point rotation of locations around the Twin Cities. Bring
homework, knitting, handheld games, other projects you’d like to work on with company, or just bring
yourself and a willingness to make new friends! Tabletop gaming is common at these meetups, so
there’s always something to break the ice.
