Anime Detour congoers! Did you know that Anime Twin Cities, the parent organization of Anime Detour, also sponsors multiple events throughout the year? Our Social Outreach Services team is hard at work year-round to provide fun and informational activities for all anime fans to enjoy while we wait for the next convention. Here are some of the events we have coming up!

ATC @ Minnesota AIDS Walk

ATC is once again putting on our tennis shoes and hoping for good weather as we join up to raise money and awareness for HIV/AIDS. The walk is 6.5 miles starting and ending at Minnehaha Falls and usually takes about 2.5 hours to complete. To join or donate to our team, go to mnaidswalk.org and select the Anime Twin Cities group.

Date: May 17th
Time: approx. 9 AM (the walk itself starts at 11 AM)

Cherry Tree Celebration and Kite Flying

Anime Twin Cities, Inc. is going to Como for the Cherry Tree Celebration with expert kite fliers. We will meet at 8:30 AM at Como Park by the Mannheimer Memorial on the corner of North Lexington Parkway and Estabrook Street. At 9 AM there will be a tree-planting ceremony, followed by a kite-flying demonstration by Seikoo and Akiko Nakamura of Nagasaki at 10 AM. At 2 PM there will be a kite-making workshop.

"The Saint Paul – Nagasaki Sister City Committee is raising money to support two cultural exchanges in 2015–our 60th anniversary as Sister Cities! SPNSCC’s logo is of hata kites from Nagasaki and we have been long time supporters of the Sansei Yonsei Kai dance group. Seiko Nakamura, kite flyer extraordinaire, is coming from Nagasaki to give our 60th celebration a flying start the weekend of June 6, 2015. He will fly his hata kites over the cherry trees at Como Park on Saturday, June 6, and again on Sunday, June 7. Nakamura-san came to the Twin Cities about 15 years ago and we are thrilled he will come again." -- Saint Paul Nagasaki Sister City Committee

Date: June 6th
Time: 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Location: Como Park in Saint Paul.
Cost: There may be an activity fee for the kite-making.

Vali-Hi Drive-In

Once again ATC is going to the Vali-Hi Drive In in Lake Elmo! We’ll be bringing the grill, as well as burgers and brats, but we’ll need plenty of people to eat them! We have no idea what the movies will be, but the box office opens at 7 and the movies begin at dusk! Bring lawn chairs, maybe a boombox or two, and blankets (it gets cold at 3am!), and any treats you think you might like. Kids and (leashed) dogs are welcome! Tickets are $8.50 a person, and we hope to see you there!

Date: June 19th
